Hey, guess what??? January 31, 2014

This one isn't about learning! Daddy made me a member of CHIMA!!! Chima is a website to play on. On this game I get to go around, play cool games, I get to cool places. It's my FAVORITE game!

THANK YOU, DADDY! But, Daddy said I have to do extra chores in order to pay him back. It's ok!

And, we have my favorite kind of pizza for dinner. Bleu cheese and chicken finger pizza!

THIS IS A FUN DAY! I'm not tired anymore!

Please remember, if you leave a comment please sign your name. I like to know who you are!

I'm getting tired of work....January 31, 2014

Ok, so.....I think the winter months are getting me down. I'm sleepy!!!!! But, I still NEED to learn..

I've been working a lot on time4learning.com. I like it. It teaches me ELA, math, social and science. You should check it out! There are lots of stories and I'm learning parts of speech. Here is an example:

         I love chemistry!

          I is a pronoun
          love is a verb
          chemistry is a noun
         ! is my puncuation

I had a thought yesterday. Do you think Santa is a timelord?? Santa deliver's all the gifts in one night. And only the doctor can do that because he has a TARDIS - Time and Relative Dimension in Space. That means he can travel through time and space and relative dimensions. THAT'S WHAT SANTA DOES! It is otherwise impossible to deliver gifts in one night. Why hasn't anybody ever thought of this before???

That's all for now....check back for updates later.

See ya tonight!

January 29, 2014 - Again?????

It's kinda hard to think of what to write first. But, yesterday was Grandpa's birthday - HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA!!!!

Last night I went to fencing! I did well. Coach and I did electric fencing. Please refer post to last Wednesday's post to see what electric fencing is. I won against my coach! I think it was a fair and square fight because in electric fencing, you can't let anyone just win.

Today we started something new. I went to chess class! I'm going back. It was infinity fun! My teacher is from Yugoslavia. He as a chess champion just like Bobby Fischer. He is a Grand Master. He hold many titles. Master Vucic taught me how to protect my king. That's the only time you are allowed to move 2 pieces. I played 2 games against 2 different people. And I held my own!
#1 Me playing chess

And guess what? All the kids there are homeschooled! That made me feel like I fit in. I liked it.

We also had ballet tonite. I got to see my teacher, Marie! YAY! She's a good teacher. She's very nice. And I got to see Abby and her Mom. Abby used to be in my class. But, she practiced really hard and took private lessons. Now she is in Ballet 2. I miss her in my class.
#2 Me doing a stretch at Lilly's barre

Our ride home from ballet took 2 hours! (eye-roller) IT WAS BECAUSE OF SNOW! The traffic was horrible. But, I had my LeNovo tablet to keep me company. I would have driven Mom crazy if I didn't. We could go pick up Bradley, though. I miss him.

Stay tuned 'til tomorrow!

Ok, not so much fun today.....January 27, 2014

Um, today was not so much fun. Today I was tired and a bit Aspie. I couldn't seem to concentrate. Mom was frustrated with me. And she wasn't any fun!

We went outside to get some fresh air this morning. We went into the woods and we investigated. We figured out that the animals change hide outs every time we discover one of their hideouts. We saw deer and bunny prints.

I worked on math most of the morning. I still dislike math, just a bit. But I'm getting a bit better at it. We also worked on social studies. I started learning about the 13 colonies. When I learn something interesting, I get excited. I'll share what I learn soon.

So, stay tuned 'til tomorrow!

Friday, January 24, 2014

This is for January 23 and January 24, 2014 - I missed a day!!!

Mom went to go see Wicked with my big sister and big brother yesterday. We didn't get a chance to write.......

Yesterday, I watched videos about Leonardo Da Vinci. What a SMART guy!!! He was an artist AND a scientist. He was most interested in flight and anatomy! Anatomy is the study of the human body. He took apart dead bodies to see what was inside and how a body worked. He studied birds to see how they fly. YAY! Many of his drawings and codices (fancy word for book) of his inventions have be tried and some really work! They modified his parachute just by putting it in the shape of a dome instead of a triangle. They changed the propeller on his helicopter from an aerial screw to a flat propeller. He also drew the Mona Lisa and sculpted a life size horse.

We got a book about him we're gonna learn more about him.

OH! We did some yoga! It was actually fun! The lady pretended to be a penguin and so did we. We're gonna to it again. It's nice for the days that are cold and we can't go out.

OH! And we threw hot water outside in the cold air! Hey, guess what happens????? IT TURNS INTO SNOW!!! How cool is that?! We tried to freeze bubbles, but the sun was out....BBBOOOOOOBBBOOOOOOOBBBOOOOOOOOO.

Today, WE DID MATH AT THE STORE!!!  It's math we can actually use! We learned about unit pricing and that the lowest price isn't always the best deal. BEWARE of the DARK TAX.  We added all of our groceries up as we placed them in the cart. Mom and I set a budget (a certain amount of money to spend on something) and tried to stick to it. Food is expensive! We had to add $20 to our budget in order to buy what we needed. But, when we went to check out, there was a difference in what we added and what we had to pay. We have to pay tax on items like toilet paper and snacks. I don't understand why.....OH AND Momma taught me a trick to go faster through the line!!! Place the UPC symbols forward for the cashier. This is so she doesn't have to search for it! She was really happy about that.

We also went to Barnes and Noble and picked up chemistry books and I finally got a poster of THE PERIODIC TABLE. There is one new element being tested in Russia!!! How cool is that!!!! (I just did the Russian dance for you. I am 1/4 Russian, you know.)

OH!!!!! I forgot!!!!! I want to build a house, a laboratory and a chemical reaction testing site UNDERGROUND!!!!!!!! It's going to be under a corn field. YAY!!! I'm gonna have a water bed!!! WOW!!!! The lab will have 2 halls on each side. One leading to my bedroom and one leading to my testing chamber. I will be testing poop bombs or any kind of chemical reactions for defense. And I'm gonna have a good laugh at the invaders when they get splatted by POOP and my chemical reactions...HAHAHAHAHA. I have to whole plan in my head.

Well, stay tuned til next week!

TO BE CONTINUED!!!!

(Happy Birthday, Connie!)

It's ELEMENTAL......January 22, 2014

This is me as a chemist last year
Well, today I didn't feel so well. I didn't even go to ballet. BUT, I did get to watch a really cool documentary (a movie or show based on actual events)  The movie was about the elements! I love the elements! They exploded stuff like a car with C4. C4 is a plastic explosive made from cyclotrimethylene-trinitramine (C3H6N6O6). I can't pronounce this but I know it has the elements carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen.

They also dug up GOLD. Gold is an element found in the underground mines. They had to dig from the top dirt all the way down to the good ole' rock. After they well, extract the gold from the dirt (a very long process) they "fire" it at about 2000 degrees F. It takes one whole truckload of dirt to make 1 gold ingot! 1 ingot weighs between 27 to 31 kgs!!!! That's about what I weigh!!!!! Oh and the chemical name for gold is Au!

They also talked about bronze. Bronze isn't an element. It's made from tin and copper. Cool! The chemical name for tin is Sn and the chemical name for copper is Cu. I plan on memorizing the WHOLE PERIODIC TABLE!!!!!

It was a fun documentary. I will watch it again!

I worked on math again today and ELA. In ELA I'm learning reading comprehension. I'm going to write a book report on The Magician's Nephew. I guess it's an OK book. I'm not sure yet. Though at night I'm reading The Lord of the Rings, The Twin Towers.( I like that better)

Well, that all for today. Stay tuned for tomorrow!

TO BE CONTINUED.....

(We love comments! But, please sign your names so I can address you when I reply! THANKS!!!!)

WE GOT WORK DONE!!! JANUARY 21, 2014

Today, my Mom (my teacher) and I made up a schedule. I don't know if we're going to follow it, but I'll try! The schedule will give us time to do everything - including SCIENCE!!! I am PASSIONATE about chemistry! When we went to Barnes and Noble, Mom ordered a chemistry set and a book about chemistry and about Madame Curie. I don't remember why she is famous, but when I know, I'll let you know.

I found out it's EASY to subtract 3 digit numbers in my head. I can even carry over! I enjoyed it! Mom found khanacademy.org. It helps me with math by showing me videos and then I do the problems they give me. Yay!!! khan academy!!!! It's cool......

I got to see my cousins Shannon, Tara and Andy this weekend. I don't get to see them a lot. I only got to see them 3 times this year. Shannon brought an exchange student that is staying with her this year. They call her T because her name is hard to say. She is from China. They brought her to Buffalo to see Niagara Falls. T draws anime. I like anime. So does my mom and Brad.

I went to FENCING!!!! I lost my bout by 1 point!!! Couch is getting tough with me. And I was a bit off tonite because I feel sickish. I'm feeling betterish now.

That's all for now, folks. It's time for TV, chocolate milk, snack. And I'm sleepy!!!!!

Tune in tomorrow!

I won!!!! January 17, 2014

Hey! Guess what?!?!? I won my FIRST BOUT against another kid!!! This was in fencing. Friday's we go to open fencing. This means that we get to do a lot of fun stuff against other kids. Usually, I lose the bouts but I'm getting better and better. I'm so glad we went!!

This is me hooked up to the electric scoring equipment

Today we went to Barnes and Noble. I had a gift card (thanks Aunt K). I didn't know what to get! They didn't have the chemistry set I wanted. But, I got 2 books instead. They are called Jedi Academy (a comic book) and a Thea Stilton book. Mom wanted to get a periodic table poster. But they didn't have it. We ordered it.

And I forgot about ballet Wednesday. Ballet was fantastic too! We learned something new! I have no idea what it's called. It was fun.

Yesterday I got to see my second grade teacher. It made me happy to see her again.

The highlight of my week was, can you guess???? WINNING MY FIRST REAL BOUT!!!! I knew I could do it.

See you next week!

Fun Chemistry!!!!! January 16, 2014

Ok, this is an early blog post because we found out Chemistry is fun!!! And it's also my strong point.

We did a science experiment. It called for chemistry. First we did our "homework" and looked up the chemical make up of baking soda and vinegar. We used the PERIODIC TABLE.  The periodic table lists all the elements - not the ones outside like water, earth, fire, and air.

The chemical equations for baking soda and vinegar are:

 NaHCO3     sodium bicarbonate

sodium     Hydrogen     Carbon      Oxygen
   Na            H                C              O3
= BAKING SODA!!!!!!!!!

Vinegar      ethanoic acid (acetic acid)
CH3COOH
Carbon  Hydrogen  Carbon   Oxygen   Oxygen  Hydrogen

  C           H3             C            O           O          H

Cool, huh???

Hey, guess what???? When you combine chemicals, something really FUN happens! And that something really fun is A KABOOM!!!

We poured baking soda (sodium bicarbonite - a base) into the sink drain.

Then we added the acid - vinegar or ethanoic acid...........wait for it.....wait

for it.....WAIT FOR IT.........

The KABOOM cleaned our sink drain!!!!! YAHOO!!!!! What actually happens is a

chemical reaction - when they react together they form carbonic acid, which

very UNSTABLE - WEAR GOGGLES WHILE DOING THIS EXPERIMENT AND IF

YOU'RE A KID,like me, DO IT WITH THE HELP OF AN ADULT -- which I did.

The carbon dioxide escapes (bubbles a lot) from the water and the 2

separate!!!!  "Bye, bye carbon dioxide" - says, water.

We will have an update later on about other things we did today!

TO BE CONTINUED.....until later on.

Update 8:46

Oh, I forgot!!!! We made bread yesterday!!! That was kinda like chemistry

because we mixed a few ingredients together and the are kind of like

chemicals. We applied heat and presto! We had yummy bread! It was fun

watching it change from a gloppy mess to a loaf of bread.

Oh, and today we found out that the place we thought the rabbit lived

is actually where the rabbit lives! We found prints, forage holes near the tree

trunk.

Hopefully tomorrow we get to see what happens when we mess up a bread

recipe!!

Stay tuned 'til tomorrow!!!

Gross! January 15, 2014

Today was gross! We went into the woods and looked for scat! YUK!!! What is scat?? Well, it's definitely gross. Scat is POOP - fresh or leftover!!! A scatologist is a person that studies poop for medical reasons. We looked it up.

We found deer and rabbit poop. And one I can't identify. I took pics! I got pricked by a pricker bush. We found 2 places where a rabbit lives. And where the squirrels. The think the squirrels are planning a raid on our bird seed. I've been seeing a lot of squirrels more often. We better set up defenses.
they ate my pumpkin!!!
UFP (unidentified flying poop)

this is deer poop

this is rabbit poop

these are the walnuts my mom wanted but the squirrels ate

squirrel and rabbit hide out

Well, that's all for today. We did other stuff but, it's 8:07 and I want my snacks, chocolate milk and TV!!!!

Stay tuned 'til tomorrow!!!

January 14, 2014 Ice Balls and other stuff

Good morning! Today I am tired! I have a little cold. But, my Mom is still making me go to "school". Here is the latest report on ice balls.

beep, beep, beep.....

We did some research on the internet. We found this article:

Hi, I'm Bryan Yeaton and this is the Weather Notebook.
In yesterday's segment, listener Ann Alpern of Buffalo, New York asked us if we could help her identify the large round objects she found on the shore of Lake Erie after an autumn storm.
We called regular Weather Notebook contributor and meteorologist Keith Heidorn to find out what Ms. Alpern found.
"What the questioner saw are called appropriately enough, ice balls and are likely common on the Great Lakes during the winter. Their formation early in the cold season arises because Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes. It normally freezes beginning in late November or early December. When the water temperature drops to near freezing, slabs of ice usually form first along a shoreline exposed to strong wind and waves. But rather than form as large uniform sheets, lake ice begins as irregular, flat chunks of ice scattered along the water's edge. Much of this ice is broken up over time by wind and wave action along the shore, and smaller chunks can float back out into the lake. If wind and wave are high, these chunks are quickly pushed back onshore forming an "ice foot" from the beach into the water. But, if the waves are small and wind light, some chunks move out into the lake. These floating chunks then become rounded into balls through their jostling in the waves. The iceballs then can migrate along the longshore until they melt or are again tossed back onshore. After time, grounded ice balls lose their rounded character and combine with other ice pieces to form the shore ice seen each winter. The observed ice balls likely picked up bits of weed and shells when they first froze on the shoreline.
That's meteorologist Keith Heidorn who lives in Victoria, British Columbia. The Weather Notebook is a production of the Mount Washington Observatory. Our show is underwritten by Subaru and the National Science Foundation.

This explains that the ice balls are just chunks of ice stuck together that form a really cool seascape. It looks like alien eggs!!! Mom and I looked up "ice foot" and we saw a big picture of a foot ice sculpture! I don't think that's what the man meant.

We also found this cool video, showing how they are formed:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iupm6VHKoQU

Holy cow! The lake's gone bowling!!!!

See ya later! I gotta go learn!

p.s. that ice foot sculpture kinda looked like a barbarians foot!

8:15:

Well, today was fencing! It's a type of french sport. There is electric fencing. Electric fencing is when we put cables through our vests. After we put our cables in, we put on our LAME. (an electric vest for fencing that counts our points.)
I won a bout! I had 5 points to my coach's 4. I'm getting really good at one on one! I get nervous when there is a group. But, I'm working on it. Fencing is a hobby of mine. I love fencing! I think I'm going to stick to it.

School today was very good. I didn't to bake because I needed extra help on some work. Maybe Thursday because tomorrow I have dance. Momma found a creepy "work out" video. I was getting tired of working on the computer and she thought it would help me. It only made me run out of breath. Rats!

Stay tuned 'til tomorrow!!

First day January 13, 2014

William’s first week: January 13, 2014

Hello, how are you I am fine .Today I am going to take pictures of Lake Erie .bye, bye
Day 1: lake/walk observations:
I observed ice balls on the lake. I heard 7 kinds of birds. One of them was a woodpecker. I saw thin ice. I saw in the sand ice, mussels that were frozen in the sand ice. I saw the ice mountains made by waves. I learned NOT to walk on ice! You fall and slip and hurt yourself!
End of night:
So, my first day of homeschool was ok! It was tiring! It was kinda fun. I worked on the computer. I took a walk. I had lunch and a snack.  And, I got to stay with my mom!
Tomorrow, we will look up what those ice balls are. (Please see pictures.) And, if we have time, we will work on measurement  by making a recipe, but not doing the correct measurements. Let’s hope our food turns out! Stay tuned ‘til tomorrow!
